Membership

Membership Info

Just to set the record straight, you don’t have to be wealthy to enjoy this hobby. We own four locomotives that are available on Sundays for operation by qualified museum members. Members can operate club locomotives only after certification from our operations dept. We provide the training you need to operate and maintain the locomotives. The riding cars and cabooses used on Sundays are generally owned by the museum.

Besides working on trains, new members may use the facility for family picnics, birthdays and other events after a year as a full member. The facility is available seven days a week. Because we are an operating railroad, members are schooled in safety and operations.

If you enjoy trains and are interested in a train hobby that permits you to ride on the trains, please come and join us for a fascinating adventure. Along with current members, you will be part of a group that included Walt Disney and composer David Rose.

Resident Membership fees are a $100 initiation and annual dues of $100. New members are expected to work at least 42 hours during the first 6 months of membership helping us maintain and operate the railroad. Additional membership categories, including junior and non-resident, are also available. Resident members are permitted to apply to host a party, after spending one year as a Resident Member.

If you are interested in resident membership (Residing within a 60 mile radius of LALSRM), come to LALS on a Sunday between 11a.m. and 3p.m. and ask to speak with the Membership Chairman or committee member, or a Board Member. If you can’t make it on a Sunday, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., please contact the Membership Chairman at membership@lals.org.

Thank you for your interest!
